Use of paraformaldehyde in resin production offers many advantages as compared to aqueous formaldehyde:

  1. Higher productivity from existing equipment and less water to be removed from the resin product.
  2. It takes the form of prilled, is stable and very easy to store. Paraformaldehyde storage is less expensive than the storage of formaldehyde solution, which requires expensive tanks and which may need stabilization or be kept warm.
  3. Use of paraformaldehyde is convenient and safe. It avoids pollution arising from the disposal of the distillate obtained in the thermosetting resin production which is contaminated with organic matter.
  4. Paraformaldehyde does not need to be dissolved in water in order to take part in a chemical reaction.
  5. It eliminates the risk of transporting liquid formalin, which is notoriously dangerous. Perfect for small uses straight from the bag.
  • One of the major uses of Hexamine is in the manufacture of dinitrosopentamethylene-tetramine, a blowing agent for rubber.
  • It is used as a catalyst in the manufacture of Bakelite phenol formaldehyde molding powders.

Melamine foam is used as insulation, soundproofing material and in polymeric cleaning products, such as Magic Eraser.

Melamine is one of the major components in, a colorant in inks and plastics.

Melamine also enters the fabrication of melamine poly-sulfonate used as superplasticizer for making high-resistance concrete. Sulfonated melamine formaldehyde (SMF) is a polymer used as cement admixture to reduce the water content in concrete while increasing the fluidity and the workability of the mix during its handling and pouring. It results in concrete with a lower porosity and a higher mechanical strength, exhibiting an improved resistance to aggressive environments and a longer lifetime.

The use of melamine as fertilizer for crops had been envisaged during the 1950s and 1960s because of its high nitrogen content (2/3).[8] However, melamine is much more expensive to produce than are other common nitrogen fertilizers, such as urea. The mineralization (degradation to ammonia) for melamine is slow, making this product both economically and scientifically impractical for use as a fertilizer.

Calcium chloride is an inorganic compound, a salt with the chemical formula CaCl2. It is a white coloured crystalline solid at room temperature, highly soluble in water.Occurrence: Calcium chloride occurs in nature in its hydrated forms as the rare minerals sinjarite (dihydrate) and antarcticite (hexahydrate). It is also found in large amounts in natural brine from salt lakes and salt deposits.

Because of its highly hygroscopic properties, calcium chloride is used to dry (remove moisture) a wide variety of gaseous and liquid organic products.

Desiccant for hydrocarbons, calcium chloride:

  • Eli minates regeneration requirements.
  • Si mplifies design and operation.· Reduces installation and operational costs.

Chloromethane, also called methyl chloride, Refrigerant-40, R-40 or HCC 40, is a organic compound with the chemical formula CH3Cl. One of the haloalkanes, it is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas. Methyl chloride is a crucial reagent in industrial chemistry, although it is rarely present in consumer products.

Methyl Chloride is a colorless, flammable, toxic gas that was used widely as a refrigerant and has many current industrial applications, including use as a local anesthetic, a chemical intermediate in silicone polymer production and drug manufacturing, an extractant for oils and resins, a solvent in butyl rubber.

Is methylene chloride the same as methyl chloride?

Methylene Chloride. Methylene chloride, also known as dichloromethane and methylene dichloride, is a clear, colorless liquid with a slightly sweet scent that is primarily used as an industrial solvent and also as a potent paint stripper and paint thinner.

Paraformaldehyde (PFA) is a polymer of formaldehyde. Paraformaldehyde itself is not a fixing agent, and needs to be broken down into its basic building block, formaldehyde. This can be done by heating or basic conditions until it becomes solubilized.

Formalin is the name for saturated (37%) formaldehyde solution. Beware though, some commercial formaldehyde solutions contain methanol to prevent polymerization (into paraformaldehyde). Since 100% formalin contains up to 15% of methanol as a stabilizer, it has a significant impact on cell fixation.
